February, 2010
Big Tent Communications is proud to announce a lunchtime press conference in honour of the JA Clark Charitable Trust and Khwando Kor, at the Atlee Room, House of Lords on 23rd February.
The event will be hosted by Baroness Prosser of Battersea and Maryam
Bibi, Director of Khwando Kor, a non profit, non government and non
partisan organization striving for development of the women and
children, strong families and communities for a progressive society in
Peshawar, Pakistan. It is non political and seeks to work with the
Taliban despite the difficult conditions in the region.
A short film about the work of the KK will be shown.
KK is a Pushto word meaning “Sister's Home”, and was founded in1993. It
draws its strength from communities' active involvement in need driven
development process through a participatory development initiative
.
Despite its avowed mission for women, KK seeks to work with men rather
than against them. Its success reflects this inclusiveness which is
embodied in its purposes. These are to achieve: Rights for All;
Empowered communities, especially women and children; A just and
equitable society
Based in Hayatabad Peshawar North West Frontier Province, Pakistan KK
is being supported by the JA Clark Charitable Trust, a small family
charity based in the south west. It has a strategic 3-year initiative
for the empowerment of women, with with nine projects supported.
The JACCT is searching for philanthropists, NGOs, other partners who
support the empowerment of women in deprived areas, with a particular
interest in projects for deprived Muslim women in conservative
cultures. We are in the last year of a 3-year programme, where we have
supported 6 in Muslim countries, so have built up some experience and
are hoping to find organisations to continue support for the projects.
